Family adventure holidays are all about connected family experiences. Getting kids and teenagers off their devices and sharing fun times in areas of outstanding natural beauty.

Green World Holidays specialise in organising Multi activity holidays in Croatia for families. Below are a selection of family adventure holiday ideas that we hope may appeal and inspire you.

1.    Rivers & Canyons

Green World Holidays most popular program for families looking for a week of thrills & spills in a gorgeous setting is called Croatia, Rivers & Canyons adventure week. This week offers fun activities like White water rafting, the unmissable River-tubing and the challenging but rewarding Canyoning. It is a wonderful week of fun activities balanced with well-deserved chill time.

2.    Island Vibes

If you want to do an active family holiday in Croatia but don’t want to go too extreme, then the Brac Island family active week is for you. This program offers 4 activities including Sea Kayaking, Climbing, Mountain Biking & SUP boarding. The activities are typically half day activities so you will always get a morning or afternoon to relax. Sutivan where you will be based is simply gorgeous and you & your family will love exploring this delightful coastal town and discover a truly authentic Croatian gem.

3.    Multi Island Kayaking adventure

This program is certainly for families who have kayaked before and know they enjoy this particularly activity; as kayaking is the predominant activity this week. We explore Dubrovnik & the Elaphite islands by a combination of kayaking, hiking & cycling. Travelling by these methods means you get to connect with nature; one another and also find hidden gems which can be largely unreachable otherwise.  This program is recommend for families with older teens.

4.    Island Hopping

Although at Green World Holidays we don’t specifically sell island hopping boat weeks we are happy to recommend routes and providers. Just contact our team for advice. There is quite a range of options from joining Catamaran convoys, self-sails & larger gullets. The gullet fleets range from basic ships to de-luxe options. We also do boat excursions as optional tours within our family adventure week programs. These are always exclusive to our families so again it is a great idea for a shared family fun experience. Our optional boat tours are also highly regarded by our families please do see the 5-star Trust-Pilot Reviews.

5.    Tailor-made

Another service we offer at Green World Holidays are tailor-made family holidays in Croatia. This gives us the opportunity to bespoke programs to your family’s needs and preferences. So, if you want full throttle activities like Zip Lining, wreck diving & extreme canyoning this can be arranged. Likewise, we can also organise more unusual family activities such as our Shepherds village hike, Olive picking or Truffle hunting.

6.    National Parks

There are 8 National Parks in Croatia for families looking for a combination of nature and adventure; we would recommend starting with the following 3 options which can be done over a week or 2-week family holiday in Croatia. We would recommend starting in the North at the enchanting Plitvice Lakes then working your way South to Krka and finally taking a ferry over to Korcula island where you can explore Mljet national park from.  Each National Park offers its own personality and special features. From waterfalls to pristine woodlands through to the most clear turquoise waters you can imagine. These are dreamy magical settings where family adventures are made and treasured.

7.    What have the Romans ever done for us?

The classic line in Monty Pythons life of Brian can most certainly be applied to Croatia, which was ruled by the Roman Empire for over 600 years at different periods. It has left a legacy which will impress even the most cynical teenagers. Highlights include:

Diocletian’s Palace in Split is one of the most extraordinary Roman structures anywhere. It is special because you can walk through Roman streets, cellars, and courtyards that are still in daily use. It forms the living, beating heart of the city.

Pula Arena is a massive, nearly intact amphitheatre and one of the best-preserved in the world. Comparable in scale to the Colosseum—and still hosts concerts and events today.

Roman Walls of Ston are one of the longest defensive wall systems in Europe.

All of these impressive historical sites can be incorporated into a family adventure holiday in Croatia.

8.    Swimming & Snorkelling in the Adriatic Sea

Croatia’s Adriatic Sea is among the cleanest seas in Europe. Croatian coastlines are consistently ranked among the cleanest in Europe, thanks to low industrial pollution and strict environmental controls. Croatia regularly scores over 95% of its coastal bathing waters as “excellent” under monitoring by the European Environment Agency. It makes it the ideal destination for active families who love swimming & snorkelling. If you fancy joining our Omis family adventure week there is an opportunity to do a wreck dive [around 3m deep]; as well as swimming in both the turquoise Adriatic and the fresh cool water of the river Cetina.

9.    Beach Games & Water Sports

All our family adventure holidays in Croatia are located on the coasts; so as well as the activities which are included within the programs your family always has time to do more should they wish. From classics like beach volleyball, snorkelling, jet-skis, banana boat rides, inflatable assault courses. Right through to horse-riding & quad biking. There really is a plethora of activities to do in this wonderful country for families looking for a combination of adventure & relaxation.

10.    Unusual activities for families

Croatia of course has all the family favourites like Zip Lining, White water rafting and Sea Kayaking but it also has some unusual ones too.

River Tubing on the Cetina is one of the most fun things you will do this summer. Travelling down grade 1 & 2 rapids this activity offers that rare blend of thrills, spills, giggles and relaxation. All surrounded by vivid green fauna and refreshing water. It’s a ten from us!
The next family activity we can recommend is Kayaking into a glowing Cave on Vis Island. Visit the famous Blue Cave by boat or kayak, where sunlight creates an electric-blue glow inside. It feels almost otherworldly like paddling into a natural light show.
You can also consider Horse Riding through wild landscapes in Lika. Ride through forests, mountains, and open countryside near Plitvice Lakes National Park. It is special for its remote and untouched environment.
Walk the Salt Flats of Ston. Visit one of Europe’s oldest saltworks and see how salt is still harvested traditionally. It’s a hands-on family cultural experience that’s surprisingly active and educational at the same time. Ston is also nestled in the Peljesac wine region of Croatia; so maybe that is another reason for parents to try this. In seriousness for families with grown up kids you can consider doing Walk & Wine tours in this part of Croatia.
